about

{NOTE: This collection was officially released here 6/5/2022}

My songwriting had been veering off into uncharted waters by 1984. The post punk band I was in, Ann Arbor's NONFICTION, broke up the following year as I then began releasing zero budget multitrack solo cassette productions. These collections were on my own label Tip Toe Tapes under the moniker of my new stage name, Laurence Bond. Most of the new songs were quirkier and far more heart felt, both lyrically and musically and with much less angst.

I was going for a particular sound in this project, premixing my tracks in the recording process due largely to limited outboard gear available for a final mix. Consequently, I had no control over the reverb program choices made and the awkward equing and stereo fields preprinted into the master tapes themselves.

Initial tracks were recorded May thru August 1986 by my friend David Gilbertson at Mr. Generic's Studio LTD, Ann Arbor MI. A partial premix was accomplished in February 1988 with final tracks added on thru March 1988 at my farm house studio PlayRooMuzik, Milan MI.

The 'live' medley was recorded by Thomas Bray & Paul Townsend during an unplugged solo performance at a WCBN Benefit Bash. This took place at the Michigan Union Ballroom in Ann Arbor, Feb 16th 1986. Additional voice and 12-string acoustic guitar were added shortly thereafter on March 7th 1986.
