about

{This collection was officially released 4/1/2003}

Just before Nonfiction broke up (early 1985) and through the beginnings of The Empty Set as it developed (1986/87), I was exploring the idea of recording/performing band-less. Solo-singer-songwriter stuff using 12-string acoustic guitar. I managed to open up for Ann Arbor’s 'Map of the World', Detroit’s 'Rhythm Core', and of course 'The Empty Set' numerous times...

“… bitingly introspective songwriting; Syd Barrett meets Sylvia Plath and/or Ray Davis...”

These are essentially unplugged double track demo tapes recorded in 1985 and 1986, many which went on to be both performed & recorded by a number of my bands over the next 30 years; Boomerang, Pretty Please, Someday, Still Life, Lost In Love, The Three Elven Kings, Under the Sunnyside, and Who Wants to Know?.

All songs written by Laurence Miller except;
SOMEDAY / musical material was taken from a song written by Benjamin Miller in 1971 -- with added lyrics and additional music.
STILL LIFE / musical motif was directly inspired by one of Benjamin's songs during the same period.

[Note: This CD was originally released under the radar in 2003.]
